What a busy week!

12 February 2021

To celebrate Chinese New Year the children have been participating in a variety of different activities today.

At Newton House in Newton-Le-Willows, the Early Learner and Reception children have been creating their own Chinese lanterns and have been exploring Chinese writing through mark making and sensory activities. We even attempted to trace and copy some of these symbols! The Babies and Toddlers have participated in sensory play activity, filling and emptying red envelopes.

At Blackbrook Nursery in Padgate, it was very cold but the children did not let it stop them learning and playing in the outdoor area! They have been on number hunts and used their new stompabouts around the garden.

They played with the bats and balls, took part in races, and balanced and walked along the beams around the vegetable patch! The children also celebrated Chinese New Year and Blackbrook's wonderful Chef Julie made so many wonderful choices for their Chinese New Year meal. The children all had a little of each dish. They had teriyaki chicken, sweet and sour chicken, Chinese style stir fried noodles, spring rolls and broccoli, cucumber and vegetables. All served on traditional Chinese plates and bowls! What a feast!

Meanwhile, the children at The Abbey in Weaverham, Northwich, have been getting creative making their own dragon pictures and lanterns. The reception children made a beautiful dragon and paraded around the nursery to show everyone. For snack, they tried prawn crackers, spring rolls and noodles, which all went down well.

The toddlers at The Willows in Warrington, enjoyed sensory play, playing in noodles, playing with yellow and red toys, colouring Chinese New Year pictures and taking part in dancing whilst listening to Chinese songs.

The children At Kalgarth Grange in Woolston have been busy challenging their mathematical skills with construction and measuring resources. They also celebrated Chinese New Year by taking part in several themed activities. The children particularly liked the traditional Chinese Zodiac Story and then played a Chinese animal racing game.

The Toddler Room was full of laughter today, thanks to some fun "hide and seek the object" games, and lots of time in the garden using the bikes and slides.

Over at The Stables in Lower Whitley, the baby room have been making dragons with red and gold glitter play dough. They were very creative and added feathers and spaghetti, and used mark making tools so that they could create their own perfect creatures. They were able to stretch, roll, poke and squeeze the different textures. They have also explored red objects and have been connecting the blocks together to create a long dragon. Some of the babies also explored using sounds as they celebrated by using pots and pans to create their own firework bangs.

Reception have also had lots of fun today for Chinese New Year. They made their own dragons using their different coloured hand prints and have looked at the different sizes of their hands when they made them. The children used this activity to develop their counting skills and counted the dragons legs and their finger prints.

The children then used instruments to create their own party music to a Happy New Year song, which they sang in their small groups. They used their imagination to build their own dragons with the mega blocks and enjoyed choosing the different colours to create different sizes and shapes of dragon figures. They also really enjoyed tracing over the different chinese letters or words that spell out familiar words.

Wow what a busy week it has been!

Happy Chinese New Year everybody and have a wonderful weekend! See you on Monday!
